The problems you encountered (gluing and cutting) are constant problems for the scherenschnitte artist. If I feel cheap or lazy, and my cutting blade starts getting dull, my work suffers. A dull blade does baaaad things for scherenschnitte. Over the years I have found that I like using spray adhesive the best. I like the temporary kind that lets you lift the piece up if you make a mistake.
